UIUC Graduates and Dependents Need Better Healthcare: Keep UIUC Competitive
Rally to Support Graduate and Dependent Healthcare
March 10
8:45 am
West Side of the Illini Union |
The Graduate Employees’ Organization (GEO) will rally in support of better health insurance prior to the University of Illinois Board of Trustees (BOT) Meeting on Thursday March 10, 2005. The BOT will be voting whether to approve a new health care plan for graduate employees during the meeting. At 845 am, GEO members and supporters will gather outside the Illini Union to send a message to the BOT that graduate students deserve improvements to their health care not included in the current plan or the plan proposed for approval on March 10. Last Fall, the GEO Health Care Working Group (HCWG) presented research to the University’s consultants that identified areas in which graduate health care needs improvement including lowering the cost of dependant coverage, improved coverage for chronic conditions and catastrophic care, and a prescription drug plan. None of these issues are addressed in the summary of the proposed plan for Fall 2006 provided to GEO by the University. GEO representative Rachel Shulman will speak during the public comment portion of the BOT meeting. The GEO rally will take place at the West entrance to the Illini Union.
