The Shortwave Report 10/19/01 LISTEN GLOBALLY! Current rating: 0
18 Oct 2001
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. Broadcast quality (!3.7MB) and quickdownload/streaming (3.4MB) Free to rebroadcast upon notification. Times and freqs for listening at home.Netherlands, Germany, Russia, Spain, Cuba.
The latest Shortwave Report (October 12) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.7MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.4MB)
(29:42) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen, try the streaming version, lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file, it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (Real Player, Winamp, Quicktime) you have on your computer.
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Deutsche Welle, the Voice of Russia, Spanish National Radio, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Netherlands- the U.N. high commissioner for refugees wants to know what will be gained by continued bombing; a report on the bombing of the Red Cross buildings; a reporter in Kabul describesthose unable to leave the city.
From Germany- foreign aid agencies are asking for a pause in the bombing; UN human rights commissioner Mary Robinson expresses
her concerns for relief deliveries and civilian deaths.
From Russia- a world press review from Tuesday night.
From Spain- a report on the bombing raids, reporting more than 400 deaths; Nigeria experienced 4 days of deadly rioting following anti-war demonstrations; 3 women journalists win Courage In
Journalism Awards.
From Cuba- a report on civilian deaths and the cost of a few of the weapons; British author John LeCarre says the war has already been lost.
All this plus times and frequencies for listening to shortwave at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station.
I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated.
I changed the smaller file from 16kbs/11kc to 16kbs/16kc, at the request of a station that streams it. I don't know why my mp3 encoder put up a dialogue box saying it doesn't recommend 16/16- it sounds the same to me. If anyone notices a problem with the stream please tell me.
