Alan Keyes signs popped up overnight in west Urbana amid clusters of Prussing signs. |
|
The apparent Keyes supporters were kind enough to leave the Prussing signs intact.
Just when we thought the Urbana primary couldn't heat up any more, Keyes could be the dark-horse factor that none of the Democratic candidates anticipated.
It's not known what office Keyes is running for, although his sign suggests that he's trying for a seat in the U. S. senate, which perhaps stands for "Urbana ... something ... senate". Urbana does not have a senate--yet.
Regardless, the residency requirement is going to be a tricky issue for Keyes. Supporters are no doubt counting on his experience to get him past these bureaucratic and legislative hurdles. And even his opponents will now have to concede that we can no longer write Keyes off as a factor in local elections. |

Damn, this could be the the out-of-nowhere spoiler candidate the republicans have been hoping for. Never has the balance of power been so precarious. Watch out, commissars of Urbana! Your crypto-Stalinist hegemony is about to be shattered! |

I think Keyes is going to have an uphill battle. He's jumped into the game quite late; none of his volunteers have knocked on my door yet. Of course, neither have Satterthwaite's, so maybe they're in cahoots?
As for running for Urbana Senate, I'm not sure if he's seeing into the future and thus advising us of what it holds, or if he's simply a desperate nutjob. Only time will tell, but in the meantime, maybe someone should make a movie based on his bold move? I propose a no-holds-barred trucker film, which could lead to a revival of said genre. Could be fun. |

Yeah -- it could be a buddy movie -- call it something like "Trucker and Keyes." The trucker could be played by Tommy Lee Jones, and Keyes could be played by Marvin the Martian. And the role of the lesbian daughter Keyes just repudiated could be played by the lesbian daughter Keyes just repudiated.

Don't forget the CGI "Clyde" the orangutan...
But who plays Satterthwaite? I vote Dom Deluise...
That reminds me, I still need to vote...yikes.
