Community radio provides a much needed opportunity for voices of dissent to be heard during these times. Local community radio WEFT is having its semi-annual fund drive now. Call 359-9338 to pledge your financial support now. |
Community Radio WEFT has provided a sound foundation for independent and community media in Champaign-Urbana for twenty years. I'd argue that without WEFT we probably wouldn't have an IMC in Urbana. WEFT has provided a place for independent and progressive minded people to meet and create media for two decades.
Now WEFT provides valuable access to the airwaves for the Urbana-Champaign IMC to help us reach an audience who might never otherwise be exposed to independent news. Unfortunately very few IMCs have this type of access and cooperation from local radio.
This is an vital resource for our communities that is deserving of our financial support. WEFT stays on the air ONLY because of individual listener donations -- unlike public radio WEFT is not funded by ADM and other corporate donations.
While there are many important efforts to donate our spare income to right now, let's not forget about institutions like WEFT which we want to be here tomorrow, next year and decades from now.
If you haven't already, call WEFT right now at 359-9338 and pledge your financial support. Someone is there to take your call 24 hours a day. WEFT can take cash, check, VISA and Mastercard, and can also take installment payments.
When you pledge $40 or more you become a member of WEFT, which allows you to train to be on air and vote for the members of the Board of Directors. When you pledge $60 or more you can receive a WEFT T-shirt or other preimiums as a gift.
To donate call 217-359-9338. Do it now and you'll be glad you did. |
