While I can understand needing to give a company time to initiate domestic partner benefits I CANNOT and will NOT understand a company that shuts down an existing DP program and removes a non-discrimination policy after a merger. You and your company are free to be blatantly prejudiced and I and my friends are free to NOT buy your products.
Editor's Note: There are a number of Mobil gas stations in the Champaign-Urbana area. |
Friends & Colleagues --
Here is an easy thing (takes 2 minutes) you can do to show your support of LGBT folks by flexing your economic muscle. The type of practices Exxon and now Mobil are engaging in are steps backwards for LGBT people who want to work and have families like every other person is able to do in this country. 3 easy things:
1. Unless you are absolutely desparate -- DON'T use Exxon or Mobil Stations
2. Let them know the reason that you are not using them by emailing them at the address <customer_relations_e-mail (at) exxon.mobil.com> -- you could cut and paste a version of my letter that I include
3. Spread the word to all of your people. Use the IMC email feature by clicking on the link above. Thanks!
Copy of my letter:
I recently became aware of your policy that ended domestic partner benefits when you merged with Mobil as well as your lack of inclusion of "sexual orientation" in your non-discrimination statement. Since I moved to Madison, I have been using a local Mobil station that I like very much. I will NOT be using it anymore as a result of your discriminatory practices AND I will ask all of my friends and colleagues to do the same.
Sincerely, Don, Madison, WI
