Sat. Jan. 8 from 2-4 PM local anti-war activists will demonstrate on North Prospect against war and occupation, armed with new poll results that show: they're the majority now! |
(Champaign) This Saturday, January 8, local anti-war activists will be gathering on North Prospect at Marketview (in front of Red Lobster) from 2-4 PM to protest the on-going "War on Terror".
And this time, we have poll results showing a majority of Americans now favor much of our position.
Since October, a majority have believed "the U.S. military presence in Iraq is currently provoking more conflict than it is preventing" and two out of three say the US should not "have a permanent military presence in Iraq," (University of Maryland's Program on International Policy Attitudes).
Now a new Washington Post-ABC News poll published Tuesday before Christmas finds 70 percent of Americans think the Iraq war has had an "unacceptable" cost in military casualties.
The poll also shows that 53 percent of Americans disapproved the work performance of Rumsfeld and 52 percent said he should not stay on during Bush's second-term.
Asked whether Iraq is prepared for elections later this month, 58 percent of those polled said no. The poll was conducted on the basis of interviews with a total of 1,004 randomly selected Americans on Dec. 16 to 19. The margin of sampling error for the results is plus or minus three percentage points.
The White House and mainstream press would have us believe the Bush Administration is representing the democratic will of the majority in the "WOT". We know better. They would also have us believe US forces are bringing democracy to Iraq - elections within days - but we know better than that, too. Join us to spread the word: the emperor has no clothes!
This is our regular monthly demonstration, normally the first Saturday of each month, which was postponed this month due to the New Year's Day holiday. Please feel free to bring your own sign or borrow one of ours. And please don't park in the Red Lobster parking lot; it's small and they have asked us nicely. |
