Investigation is now dropped on the policeshooting during the EU-meeting in Gothenburg. According to the chief prosecutor Björn Ericsson, there is no reason to proceed. Even in Berlusconi`s italy the police got harsh criticism. But in Sweden, NOBODY CARES. |
Investigation is dropped on the shootings on Vasaplatsen, Gothenburg during the EU-meeting. Chiefprosecuter Björn Ericsson decided today (Friday) that he cant confirm any crime. In a statement to the Swedish press, Björn Ericsson says that the police was outnumbered, and in severe danger from ppl that was intent to cause individual policemen "great harm". He also claims that there were times before the shooting were they were in dangerous situations, but did NOT use their guns, and it wasn’t until one of the policemen got hurt that they judged the situation "lifethreatning" and fired their guns. Björn Eircsson also says that in this perspective it is "irrelevant" who held the gun that almost killed the 19-year old protester. Therefore he sees no point in continuing.
Meanwhile the 19-year olds trial begins today (Friday). He is charged with rioting and assault against officer. He may be sentenced up to 2 years in prison according to the lawbooks, but since other demonstrators have been sentenced with suprisingly hard punishments-it can be even more. The 19-year olds lawyer is hopeful though that jury takes into account his young age and that he was shot.
