Write for Rights!
Sign up to the global letter-writing marathon 2004
Between 10 - 12 December 2004, thousands of human rights activists around the world will take part in Amnesty International's global letter-writing marathon.
Last year, people in over 30 countries sent an incredible 27,500 appeals and nearly 9000 petition signatures in a 24-hour period.
This year's event will be the biggest yet, with organizers hoping for more than 50,000 appeals. The marathon is held annually to mark the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, signed on 10 December 1948.
How you can get involved
Everyone can participate. It all begins with people just like you taking a few minutes to write a short letter, fax or email on behalf of individuals whose human rights are currently being violated.
You can continue to write appeals for the whole 24 hour period, but you don’t have to; you can contribute by writing just a few letters. Every appeal counts.
If you live in one of the following countries you can join the letter writing marathon online and get involved in your local area:
Canada (English) Canada (French) Czech Republic Malaysia Poland UK USA
You can also take part by sending appeals using actions from the AI website (www.amnesty.org) including:
