SANTIAGO,Chile-AFF- Police in the Chilean port city Valparaiso used tear gas and water trucks Tuesday to disperse scores of university students protesting against the weekend Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation summit and the visit of President George W. Bush.
Authorities said one police officer and two television camera crew members were injured, one of them with two broken ribs. At least two demonstrators were detained.

It was the first clash in the series of anti-APEC and anti-Bush protests announced by leftist and anti-globalization groups.
An unauthorized student march is scheduled Wednesday morning in the capital Santiago.
The only march authorized by the government is scheduled Friday, also in downtown Santiago, away from the summit site.
Chilean President Ricardo Lagos has said opponents of APEC and Bush have the right to demonstrate because Chile is a democratic country but he urged them to "protest in a civilized manner."
Security has been stepped up throughout the city in anticipation of the summit, that is scheduled to take place from Friday through Sunday. |
