Makes Me Wanna Hurl: "A Taste of the CIA" Current rating: 0

The Daily Illini is _donating_ ad space to the CIA. What's the matter, is the CIA budget a little weak this year?
The Central Intelligence Agency invites you for "a Taste of the CIA."

This event aims to recruit credulous young people into being the president's assassins. It is scheduled for Tuesday, November 16 from 6 to 9pm at One World Cafe (5th and John) in Champaign.

Apparently, the CIA's recruiting budgt has some serious gaps (must be why they haven't caught Osama yet?). They are relying on donated ad space in the Daily Illini and an advertising campaign put together by students at the University of Illinois. They do have enough money to offer free food, free music (themes from James Bond movies?), and a free I-pod to any suckers, err, I mean students willing to show up to be recruited by this morally and politically questionable organization.

This effort does represent a turnaround in local recruiting efforts for the CIA. In the mid-1980s, the CIA was forced to begin relying on more clandestine methods of recruitment after a series of protests againt their public recruiting events by Central American solidarity activists disrupted their efforts. At that point, the CIA switched to simply placing ads in the DI that asked interested parties to call a number, where they were instructed to secretly meet one at a time in hotel rooms at Illini Union. Even these efforts were obstructed at times by activists posing as protential recruits.

If you really have a taste for murder, espionage, staging coups and smuggling drugs, then maybe the CIA is for you. Morally upstanding people usually try to avoid such career choices. Perhaps some morally upstanding people will show up to protest this abusive agency on Tuesday evening and drive the CIA back into its bunkers.
