28 Oct 2004
Please circulate widely! Go to http://www.emilylonigro.com/onestate.html for posters, etc.

Feeling a little pensive about the upcoming election?
There IS an antidote...
On November 2, Join Chicago Indymedia and Third Coast Press for an Election Night Benefit Blow-out!
Come to the party of the decade to take in - and take on - the election of the century!

6PM-2AM
Hothouse
31 E. Balbo, Chicago

Yeah, we know progressives view this presidential race with trepidation -and that with both parties running war candidates, we’ll have our work cut out for us, regardless of who wins. But that’s no excuse to sit alone on your couch with a bottle of cheap bourbon biting your nails on November 2! Join Chicago Indymedia and the Third Coast Press for a REAL ALTERNATIVE: a rollicking night of great music, biting political satire, comprehensive electoral coverage, and the swell chance to mingle with your cohorts – Chicago’s progressive community.

Keep an eye on unfolding election coverage through both network news and internet sources, celebrate the momentum of U.S. progressive political movements since the dawn of the Bush era, and sample a smorgasbord of local live music, political art, spoken-word poetry and political satire. It’s the party of the decade, to take in -and take on - the election of the century. Festivities include:

Folk-rock extraordinaire Rebecca F * spoken-word poet and Def Jam veteran
Triple Blak * hip-hop/reggae sensations Star People * political punk project PAL * rockabilly revolutionaries the Chariots * premier poets Nina Corwin and C.J. Laity

Plus video shorts from the Guerilla News Network and Street Level Youth Media * silent auction of local movement photographers’ recent work ... and a plethora of other artists and entertainers, including juggler Bradley Adita!

Proceeds go to Chicago Indymedia and the Third Coast Press, which chose Election Day for this benefit blast to highlight the need for a truly free and independent press, to provide space for alternative coverage of unfolding events - and to give progressives a chance to kick back, have some laughs, conspire, debate, dialogue and celebrate the power of our movement. Come for a great show and a chance to forge new alliances - and fire up political activism in metro Chicago.

Admission: $10-$50 bucks (or more if you’ve got it. Hey, it’s a benefit...). NO-ONE WILL BE TURNED AWAY FOR LACK OF FUNDS. Sorry, attendees must be 21 and over. Partners include Chicago Media Action, Chicago Filmmakers, Hasta Cuando, HammerHard MediaWorks and other Chicago-area, independent news projects. Labor donated.
