The U-C IMC library is weeding books! Please read on... |
U-C IMC BOOK WEEDING PROCESS
Here's how it works:
Please look below at the list of books that the U-C IMC Library Working Group is considering weeding from our collection. If you are interested in viewing the books first-hand, they will be available for viewing on the "New Book" shelf starting tomorrow (Sunday, October 10, 2004) until Tuesday, October 26th. On the 26th at 7:30pm, the librarians will meet to discuss any IMC member concerns about particular books. Of course, everyone is invited to the meeting to be full participants in the process!
Below you will also find the process of how we are weeding books. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at iwillresist (at) hellokitty.com.
1) October 9 - List of books we're considering to weed goes to membership.
2) October 10 through October 26 - Books available for viewing at IMC on "New Book" shelf (for lack of a better space). Any concerns about books being weeded should be sent to iwillresist (at) hellokitty.com. PLEASE INCLUDE TITLE AND REASON THE IMC SHOULD KEEP THE BOOK OR IF YOU DONATED THE BOOK, AND WOULD LIKE IT BACK.
3) October 26 - 7:30pm, U-C IMC Librarians will meet to discuss any book challenges.
4) We will then offer weeded books to the person that donated them (if applicable).
5) Then we will offer the remaining books to Books to Prisoners.
6) Then we will put the then remaining books on a donation table to
raise money for the IMC.
6) Then we will donate the rest of the books to somewhere that’s not
the IMC.

U-C IMC Mission : The Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center is a
grassroots organization committed to using media production and
distribution as tools for promoting social and economic justice in
the urbana Area. We are dedicated to addressing issues that the
mainstream media neglects and we do not conceal our politics behind a
false objectivity. We will empower people to "become the
media" by providing democratic access to available technologies
and information.
U-C IMC Library Mission : The U-C IMC Library is a non-profit
volunteer collective that supports the information needs of IMC media
creators and the community at large. The library attempts to collect
material that gives voice to those not portrayed in the
mainstream/corporate media outlets, and has a preference for
materials not available at other local libraries.
