Below is the text of an email that I sent to the editors and administrators of the Register Guard in regards to a disturbing poll on the homepage (http://news-gazette.com/) entitled "What should the U.S. reaction be to the terrorist attacks?" I encourage others to keep writing to all the media outlets to force them to publish objective news, not simply thoughtless patriotic drivel. |
TO: foreman (at) news-gazette.com, wilcox (at) news-gazette.com, beck (at) news-gazette.com, mcdonald (at) news-gazette.com, corkery (at) news-gazette.com, kakich (at) news-gazette.com
I am appalled by the jingoistic overtones of the current poll on your Web site entitled "What should the U.S. reaction be to the terrorist attacks?". The fact that all but one of the choices is violent in nature (and the last implies simply ignoring the situation) is truly irresponsible journalism. I feel horribly for the victims of this atrocity--in fact have family in NYC who live and work in Battery Park City, just a few blocks away--but I believe that there ARE other, non-violent, choices that can be made. Passions are already running high. Now is a time for level-headedness, not reckless saber-rattling posing as "objective news". I strongly demand that you take down this poll immediately.
Sincerely,
James Jacobs |

This story should be titled as "Horrible Poll At N-G Website," if it's possible to change it in admin.
(James, I hate it when that happens;>) done it myself.)
BTW, keep voting. At least "Turn the other cheek" is up to 10%, although I completely agree with the critcisms above. |
