There are a number of reports Thursday evening on Vice-President Dick Cheney’s move out to Camp David. |
CNN is reporting this move as part of an overall tightening of security brought about by continuing concerns about the security of Washington, DC.
The New York Times has an AP story that reports:
"WASHINGTON (AP) -- Two days after the worst terrorist attack in American history, officials widened the security buffer around the White House, moved Vice President Dick Cheney to Camp David and closed New York's three airports to incoming flights.
The Capitol was evacuated as well, lawmakers and aides streaming down the front steps in haste.
White House spokesman Ari Fleischer declined to describe the reasons behind the change at the White House.
Cheney's spokeswoman, Juleanna Glover, said the vice president had been moved as a ``purely precautionary measure.''
The president remained in the White House, according to Fleischer."

Then we get to what may be the real reason Cheney is being moved out of DC. Insight Magazine, a right-wing weekly news magazine put out by the Moonie-controlled Washington Times, reports this:
"Cheney Residence Cleared Out As Threats In Neighborhood Rise
9/13/01 - The national mosque located a few blocks from Vice President Dick Cheney's residence appears to be the target of threats, as are nearby embassies resulting in heightened security by police.
As threats pour into federal facilities around the country, there appears to be attempts to create confusion and fear, Insight is told.
An example is the evacuation of the Cheney residence and closing of streets around the vice presidential compound. "All security precautions are being taken even if these are crank calls," says one police officer who called in to Insight.
White House officials are now saying that it was the threat to the mosque and nearby buildings that prompted the quick de-staffing of Cheney workers at the compound. Asked directly if a threat was received at the vice presidential residence, one federal law enforcement officer said: "I'm not going to get into that with you ... We are taking steps to protect everyone.""

So it appears that the real reason for Cheney moving out of the Vice-President’s official quarters is because of bomb threats against a nearby mosque. I wonder if the Muslims using the mosque are being offered protection against the hate-mongers? I think it is unfortunate that much of the media is failing to report what seems to be a story on how hate is on its way to destroying the American way of life, even more surely than suicidal hijackers? |
