Don't Let them Strangle our Union!
Protest Union Busting
Thursday, September 2, from 11:30AM to 1:30PM
Henry Administration Building (Meet on the South side)
* the Henry Building is on campus at Wright St. just South of Green St.

Please email geo (at) shout.net to let us know you are coming!

Less than three weeks in to the graduate employee contract the University
administration is making clear their lack of interest in honoring the
agreement. For example:

* Many graduate employees have not been granted tuition waivers yet. The
Office of Student Accounts has been told by the UI to inform grads that
the delay is a result of the graduate employee contract not being signed.
Why the lie?

* The UI administration has refused to administer dues and fair share
deductions for graduate employees, leaving the Union in financial peril.

* The UI administration has not notified departments of the contract. This
has lead to misunderstanding and, in some cases, violations of graduate
employee rights under the agreement.

* The UI administration sent two emails to all departments instructing
them not to cooperate with GEO attempts at informing new grads about their
union. When GEO leaders protested, the UI administration promised to send
out a clarification email but has failed to do so.

* Under the contract the UI has a responsibility to notify graduate
employees about their union representation (Article XII, Section A). They
have made no effort to do this and refused to allow a GEO representative
to read a 15-second statement at the all-campus TA orientations.

Be there this Thursday, September 2nd from 11:30AM-1:30PM at the Henry
Administration Building, to protest the foul play by the University. The
University has reneged its obligations to UIUC employees and is in clear
violation of the contract and the law. In addition to legal action we need
public pressure to make the UI administration live up to its obligations!
