Support a bicycling as a safe, clean and legitimate form of transportation. Join Champaign-Urbana Critical Mass on our monthly ride, this coming Friday, 2/23 at 5:00pm, meeting at the Alma Mater, at the SE corner of Green and Wright St. in campustown. |
Critical Mass is when bicyclists ride together in the streets to demonstrate our right to share the road. All too often it's easy for motorists to not see or ignore bicyclists on the road, causing problems and accidents that are far more dangerous for the bicycle rider. When a mass of bicycles ride together we cannot be missed or ignored. We demonstrate to motorists that we must be paid attention and respected as vehicles.
Critical Mass is also fun, as you enjoy the fresh air and exercise with other bicyclists.
We hold our rides on the last Friday of every month at a little past 5:00 PM, beginning at the Alma Mater at the corner of Wright and Springfield and taking a pre-planned route around town for about an hour total. There are no leaders in critical mass -- if you like bring signs, bells, costumes, whatever will make the experience more fun and memorable. If you'd like to suggest a route--someplace where bicyclists need to be seen--then please join our e-mail list and make a suggestion.
Our next ride is Friday Feb. 23.
