Why is Dick Cheney so short-tempered? Here are two clues. |
(1) 9/11 Panelists Rebut Cheney on Information
By PHILIP SHENON
Published: July 7, 2004
WASHINGTON, July 6 - The leaders of the commission investigating the Sept. 11 attacks on Tuesday disputed Vice President Dick Cheney's suggestion that he probably had access to more intelligence than the commission did about possible ties between the Qaeda terrorist network and Iraq.
In a one-sentence statement, the panel's chairman and vice chairman said that "after examining available transcripts of the vice president's public remarks, the 9/11 commission believes it has access to the same information the vice president has seen regarding contacts between Al Qaeda and Iraq prior to the 9/11 attacks."

(2) Meanwhile, last week's round of NYT/CBS polling shows this ringing endorsement of Cheney:
"Is your opinion of Dick Cheney favorable, not favorable, undecided, or haven't you heard enough about Dick Cheney yet to have an opinion?"
Favorable: 21%
Not favorable: 28%
Undecided: 22%
Haven't heard enough: 28%
Just for the heck of it, compare that to how he stood at the starting gate, Jan 15, 2001:
Favorable: 37%
Not favorable: 17%
Undecided: 17%
Haven't heard enough: 28%
So what do you think -- the White House sees these numbers too, and Bush is carrying the same dead weight with Cheney that Bush I carried with that neurosurgeon/rocket scientist Dan Quayle. Think Dick is going to suddenly announce that declining health won't permit him to continue the campaign?
