Commentary :: Protest Activity
Finders Keepers - lone outreach/protest action anyone can do Current rating: 0
24 May 2004
Crumple up hundreds of 9/11 "dollar bills" and casually drop them in places where mainstream Americans frequent. Your freedom is worth the investment.

The problem:

Given that we in the U.S. may well be on the cusp of Big Brother's final entrenchment in the form of another potential four years with the Bush regime, shouldn't we be doing everything in our power to rid this nation of the neo-con plague? For some that may mean getting into the streets to protest in every way possible (the RNC in NYC being perhaps THE most critical moment); for others it may mean as much one-on-one contact with their family, friends and neighbors trying to convince them to vote the scoundrels out AND to make sure their votes are counted; and for still others it might mean working get Ralph Nader to do the right thing, hold his nose and throw his votes to Kerry.
One thing's for sure: doing nothing, or worse, just talking about it, could well prove to be an error of immense proportions that one could regret for the remainder of one's days. After all, it's hardly an overstatement to say that the Bush regime could well turn this nation into a complete police state at the same time it ruins the ecological balance of the planet and guts the federal government in favor of corporations and the so-called ruling class.

The weakest links:

Probably the quagmire in Iraq, the faltering economy, and the many questions and suspicions about 9/11 are the greatest threats to the continued rein of the present neo-con cabal in Washington. All of these must be exploited during the coming months in order to rid us of this regime. One action this protester is taking focuses on the issue of 9/11, the seeming whitewash being perpetrated by the 9/11 Commission, and likely involvement by some Bush regime operatives in the tragic events that took the lives of thousands of New Yorkers and others. It's a simple act that anyone can do anytime, BUT it's only one small action. Much, much more action is needed in many, many more places in order to save this nation from ruin.

Finders Keepers - the action:

If you go to http://www.deceptiondollar.com/DDHome.htm and click on "order" you can buy a stack of phony 9/11 dollar bills that look remarkably like U.S. currency. As you probably know, printed on the bills are addresses to various websites questioning the Bush regime's involvement in 9/11. Those questions and that doubt in people's minds about the regime's potential complicity in 9/11 represent a powerful aspect of the present political crisis. Also, peoples' fixation on money is a powerful aspect of U.S. culture. Put the two together and you have a powerful outreach opportunity.
Now, what do you do when you're walking along Main Street, Anywhere USA and you see a crumpled-up dollar bill (or 911 dollar bill in this case)? Most folks pick it up and 1)look at it, or 2)stuff it in their pocket without looking at it. Both of those are what some call "teaching moments". You have someone's attention. The rest is up to the holder. It's as simple as that. Crumple up hundreds of 9/11 bills and casually drop them in places where mainstream Americans frequent: malls, supermarkets, main streets, lobbies, you name it. The rest is up to the finder.
