A new website cnnEXPOSED.com (cnnX), which takes a critical look into CNN's news stories, was launched today. cnnX provides daily critiques and assigns a "Slant Index" to CNN.com's headline stories. |

Slant Index: 2
CIA official: Al-Zarqawi likely beheaded Berg
CNN's May 13, 2004 headline story entitled "CIA official: Al-Zarqawi likely beheaded Berg" receives a slant rating of 2, not because the information presented was slanted, but because of the absence of related and pertinent news.
Not present in CNN's reporting were the astonishing views of Berg's father that placed the blame for his son's death on President George W. Bush and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, while saying the captors "did not know what they were doing."
According to Al Jazeera's website, Michael Berg said on May 13th, "My son died for the sins of George Bush and Donald Rumsfeld. This administration did this."
Such views may be uncomfortable for the Bush administration and perhaps for a majority of Americans. But it was part of the day's news.
CNN reported critically of the Defense Department's denial of the Berg family's request to be present at Dover Airforce Base when the coffin arrived. CNN quoted Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pennsylvania, as saying "Inexplicably that modest request was denied."
But if CNN's readers were provided Michael Berg's sharp criticism of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, the Defense Department's denial would have been placed in an appropriate, and perhaps meaningful context.
About cnnX
cnnEXPOSED.com (cnnX) was created after its founders noticed a growing bias in CNN's reporting, especially inside stories related to national security. Because fair and balanced reporting is essential to a healthy democracy, cnnX believes it is important to expose any bias or slant within CNN's news products.
CNN's headline stories and other major stories that appear at cnn.com are critiqued daily and rated with a Slant Index. Readers may also provide their own slant rating for any critiqued story. Results of reader input will be averaged in a second, "Readers Choice" slant index.
We hope that these reviews and slant indices will compel CNN to improve its news products by maintaining a reasonable balance throughout its news coverage.

Wow, I did know that CNN was still on the air. Their ratings do not indicate this. Keep an eye on them though and I'll continue to watch fox.
