In the most recent gallup poll, George W. Bush's job approval rating was 46 percent approval to 51 percent disapproval. This is the first time in any poll I have seen since Bush was elected where the disapproval number is higher than the approval number. |

In the most recent gallup poll, George W. Bush's job approval rating was 46 percent approval to 51 percent disapproval. This is the first time in any poll I have seen since Bush was elected where the disapproval number is higher than the approval number. It's also the first time that a majority of people polled have disapproved of George W. Bush's job performance.
The data for this chart includes CBS/NYT polls as well as Gallup polls. The most recent two data points are the two most recent Gallup polls.
I've been dutifully updating this chart for years, waiting for the red line to cross the blue one.
In case you haven't been following the trend, the huge jump in late 2001 is the immediate aftermath of 9/11, the second big jump is the start of the Iraq war, and the most recent spike is right after the capture of Saddam Hussein. The pattern is very much one of diminishing returns, so far. Also note that the undecided level has fallen off significantly since March. |
