The AFL-CIO will host the second annual Online Labor Day Festival at www.aflcio.org/laborday from Aug. 28 to Sept. 21, 2001.
The Festival celebrates working people and union culture through art, music, games, Labor Day greeting cards and more, and takes cyber activism to new heights. Visitors can register to vote, contact members of Congress, give anti-worker employers a piece of their mind, find out about their rights at work, and mobilize for change at the workplace.
Highlights include: · Rights@Work Action Center, where visitors can take action to support workers, make their voices heard in an online poll and view a new report on workers’ rights based on Hart Research; · Funland, with games like Shatter the Glass Ceiling, Smash Corporate Greed and Mancala, crossword puzzles and a "Just For Kids" section; · Gallery featuring a "Jacob Lawrence Remembered" exhibit with several of his works, photos of unions and workers at work, and much more; · Performance Stage, with exclusive Dropkick Murphys performances and an interview (An 11-minute video of the Boston-based punk band performing a rare acoustic set in the AFL-CIO cafeteria, performing on a picket line, and giving the classic labor song "What Side are You On" a "kick in the ass"), great worker-inspired music by Ani DiFranco, Utah Phillips and others and union karaoke; · Opportunities to connect with your local labor movement; · Card Shop with e-cards for Labor Day, activists, birthdays, and more, plus screensavers; · Interfaith Gathering, including Labor in the Pulpits information and faith teachings on worker justice.
The AFL-CIO is the umbrella organization for America’s unions, representing 13 million working men and women. |
