The Game Current rating: 16

A parody of the CMS/Health Alliance conflict.
It was the Little League championship game. The biggest game of the year pitted the Bullies against the Peanuts. The Bullies win every year. No matter what the Peanuts do, the Bullies always win. But this year, the Peanuts were on their game. They were playing better, even winning a few games. They came into the championship game well prepared and ready to play. They read up on all the rules. They practiced very hard. They were ready.

The Bullies didn't practice very hard before the championship game. Why should they? They always win. They were cocky. There was simply no way that the Peanuts could beat the Bullies.

When game time came, something wasn't quite right. The Peanuts were "on their game". Their pitcher was having a very good game. The game was on - and it was close.

When the last inning came around, the Peanuts pitcher threw his very best pitch. It was a fast ball on the outside corner. A nearly perfect pitch. The Umpire called "Strike Three". It was the Bullies' pitcher's turn. He threw his pitch. It wasn't his best pitch. He didn't think he had to throw his best pitch. His pitch was outside. The Umpire called "Ball Four" and the game was over. But was it?

While the Peanuts celebrated, the Bullies pitcher threw a fit on the mound. He cried and cried and went running to his daddy - who happened to be on the league board of directors. They ran after the Umpire and demanded a "do over". The Umpire stood by his decision.

A week later, the league board of directors held a meeting and demanded that the Bullies get a "do over", "It is only fair.", said the Bullies' coach." Our pitcher did not throw his best pitch. He should get another chance." So the Bullies' pitcher gets another chance to throw another pitch (and another, and another, and .....) until he throws a pitch that is good enough to win the game.

I guess this is how things are in the Little League we call the State of Illinois. If you are a member of the Bullies team, and you don't win the game, just throw a fit and your "daddy" will make everything better.

Hi Jim:

Mark here. Long time no see.

I like it. Although originally I thought the whole news story was just a negotiating tactic; it sure does seem like it's a done deal, now. Do you think the Bullies will prevail?

Be well.

Absolutely this is a done deal. They called in their political favors.

It doesn't take very long to search for political contributions to find out how much money (thousands and thousands) Carle and its subsidiaries give to political campaigns. This is why they do that.

They simply called in their "loans".

It is very bad public policy.

And we wonder why the State of Illinois is billions of dollars in debt. These politically connected contracts have got to stop. CMS was created to take politics out of the business contracts. The politicians (Winkel, Rose, Black, and Jackobson) won't let that happen.

It is a done deal and the Bullies win again.
