GEO Picket for Graduate Employee Contract and Healthcare, April 28 Current rating: 15
27 Apr 2004
The UI Administration has been dragging its feet through more than a year of negotiations with the Graduate Employees Organization. Fed up with the glacial pace of negotiations on its first contract with the UI, the GEO will picket Swanlund on Wednesday, April 28 from 11am to 3pm.
GEO Picket
for grad healthcare and protections
Wednesday, April 28, 11am to 3pm (rally at 12:30)
Swanlund Administration Building

Please help us in our fight for basic improvements in grad working
conditions:
* better and more affordable healthcare
* protections against overwork, discrimination, and arbitrary
discipline/termination

RAIN PLAN: In case of rain, the picket will be cancelled but the Rally
will still go on as scheduled (12:30pm at Swanlund Administration
Building).

* Swanlund Administration Building is located on the corner of John and
Sixth Streets.

Dear Friends of the GEO,

The Graduate Employees' Organization (GEO) has called for a massive
informational picket for comprehensive healthcare and basic workplace
protections for grad employees. This will take place at Swanlund
Administration Building from 11am to 3pm on Wednesday, April 28! We need
your help. Please email geo (at) shout.net and let us know if/when you can
attend.

For over a year the graduate employees has been meeting with the UI
administration to come to an agreement over the healthcare, pay, and working
conditions for over 2,500 TA's and GA's at the UIUC. Graduate employees
receive a substandard health package with little employer contribution.
Furthermore we have few real protections against overwork, discrimination,
or unjust discipline/termination. The administration's current proposals do
very little to change this situation.

Your show of solidarity is extremely important. Please show your support
by walking the picket line with us Wednesday, April 28, from
11am-3pm.

*WEAR YOUR GEO T-SHIRT (or get a free one at the picket)!
