Here are online resources by and for soliders, veterans, and military families. |
As more and more soliders are killed in a war premised on lies, I have started to concentrate my reporting on the war in Iraq (it never ended - since 1991) from the perspective of soliders and their families.
Listen to IMC Radio News from April 5 where the feature focuses on war from the perspective of some of those who fought and their families, including stories from two mothers who lost their sons:

In doing this report, and since, I have been compiling a list of websites I read. This is in no way exhaustive. Please add additional sites as comments.
MILITARY FAMILIES SPEAK OUT
http://www.mfso.org/
An organization, formed in November of 2002, of people who are opposed to war in Iraq and who have relatives or loved ones in the military. Their site is full of letters and speeches of family members.
TRAVELING SOLIDER
http://www.traveling-soldier.org/ci.php
A monthly newsletter - online and print - for people in the armed forces. The goal is to build a network of active duty organizers to resist lies and injustices within the armed forces.
VIETNAM VETS AGAINST THE WAR
http://www.vvaw.org/
A group started in 1967 with six Vietnam vets marching for peace. They still organize for peace, justice, and veteran rights and can be seen speaking at anti-Iraq war rallies.
VETERANS FOR COMMON SENSE
http://www.veteransforcommonsense.org/
An Washington-based organization of Gulf War vets fiscally sponsored by the Education for Peace in Iraq Center. They post news and articles critical of the treatment of troops and vets and of the war in general.
STARS AND STRIPES
http://www.stripes.com/
A popular magazine amongst the military. They seem to have independent reporting (see their extensive poll on troop morale and troop support of the war: http://www.stripes.com/morale/). I hear they are partly military funded, but can't confirm.
DESERT-STORM.COM
A site created to honor those who participated in Operation Desert-Storm. It is also intended to provide an informative resource about the war and the events surrounding it. Interesting online forums - although not well visited. |
