Tour to Make Stop in Champaign-Urbana Wednesday, March 31 at 7:00

On Wednesday, March 31st, Amnesty International’s death penalty Road
Trip for Justice will be making a stop on the University of Illinois
campus. Speakers include Jennifer Bishop-Jenkins from Murder Victims’
Families for Reconciliation; John Lyons from Amnesty International;
Rachael Dietkus from the YWCA of the University of Illinois and
formerly the Illinois Coalition Against the Death Penalty; and Aaron
Patterson, a wrongfully convicted former death row inmate pardoned by
former Gov. George Ryan in January 2003.
The event will start at 7:00 p.m. and will be in room 192 Lincoln
Hall on the UIUC campus.
The Road Trip for Justice is a two-week tour of college campuses in
the state to expand support for abolishing the death penalty.
Including Champaign, stops are being made in Rockford, DeKalb,
Carbondale, Galesburg, Springfield, Bloomington-Normal, Peoria,
Decatur, and Joliet. The tour began on March 18 and will run through
April 2 and continues a student network organizing effort in support
of abolishing the death penalty in Illinois and across the country.
Students will be educating others, seeking resolutions of support,
passing petitions and participating in lobby days as well as other
activities at the scheduled tour events and in the coming months.
This is event is co-sponsored by Amnesty International Midwest
Regional Office, Amnesty International Chapter #124, Illinois
Coalition Against the Death Penalty, Murder Victims' Families for
Reconciliation, YWCA of the University of Illinois, and many other
organizations.
