On Thursday, April 1st, the Illinois Disciples Foundation’s Second Annual Human Rights Film Series will show "Incident at Oglala: The Leonard Peltier Story" at 7pm at the IDF. This film, produced by Robert Redford, documents the violent events that took place in 1975 on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, the extended standoff between FBI agents and Indian activists, and the resulting, hotly contested conviction of Leonard Peltier, a Sioux political leader, for the deaths of two federal agents. After the film, there will be a facilitated discussion. The film series is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided. The IDF is located at the NW corner of Springfield and Wright St. in Champaign. For more information, please call the IDF at (217) 352-8721 or check out the website at www.prairienet.org/idf. |
