Global Union Delegate to Iraq on Labor Hour |

Bilal Malkawi, secretary of the mid east region of the International Transport Workers' Federation, joined a delegation to Iraq to assess workers' rights under the new regime. The visit took place in February. Today, I had a chance to interview him from his home in Jordan, and he had many interesting things to say about spontaneous formation of trade unions, how workers perceive the new government, and the challenges that workers face as they re-build Iraq's labor movement. The interview will air Saturday, March 20 between 11 am an noon on WEFT 90.1 FM, Champaign. |
