“ROAD TRIP FOR JUSTICE” STATEWIDE TOUR OF COLLEGE CAMPUSES SET TO BUILD SUPPORT FOR ENDING THE DEATH PENALTY IN ILLINOIS
Tour to Make Stop in Champaign-Urbana Wednesday, March 31, 2004 |
The Road Trip for Justice is a two-week tour of college campuses in the state to expand support for abolishing the death penalty. Road trip stops will be held in Rockford, DeKalb, Carbondale, Galesburg, Springfield, Bloomington-Normal, Peoria, Decatur, Champaign-Urbana, and Joliet.
The tour will be making its stop in Champaign-Urbana on Wednesday, March 31 at 7:00 p.m. in room 192 Lincoln Hall on the UIUC campus. Speakers include: Aaron Patterson, a wrongfully convicted former death row inmate; Jennifer Bishop-Jenkins, Board Member of Murder Victims’ Families for Reconciliation; John Lyons, representative from Amnesty International and the producer of the death penalty abolition documentary Too Flawed to Fix; and Rachael Dietkus, community activist and Program Coordinator for the YWCA of the University of Illinois.
The Road Trip for Justice college tour continues a student organizing effort in support of abolishing the death penalty. Students will be educating others, seeking resolutions of support, passing petitions and participating in lobby days as well as other activities at the tour events and in the coming months. |
