Higher Education workers from all over the state of Illinois will converge on springfield weds. march 24th to demand more money for education. You do not have to be a worker to take part in this action. students and community members are encouraged to call up and to participate. buses leave chicago march 24th at 6:30 am from the UIC hospital. |
FIGHT CUTS IN HIGHER EDUCATION -- JOIN THE LOBBY DAY IN SPRINGFIELD ON MARCH 24
The U of I adminstration and the Illinois Board of Higher Education have once again ignored the voices of workers, students and other campus staff and are recommending more than 2% in cuts for the University's budget. Hundreds of millions have already been cut from higher education in this state. New cuts will bring higher tuition, making it that much more difficult for future students to attend college. And proposals for even more cuts in staffing will come, too.
On Wednesday, March 24, Local 73 members will travel to Springfield to say NO to more cuts in higher education. They will be part of a coalition that includes AFSCME, the unions representing teachers, Community College faculty, and others. HELP MAKE A DIFFERENCE. GO DOWN TO SPRINGFIELD ON MARCH 24. Call the Union at (312) 787-5868 and talk to Bll, Tom or Ron about getting on the bus. We leave at 6:30 am from in front of the U of I Hospital. Lunch is provided. MEMBERS FROM THE U OF I IN CHAMPAIGN/URBANA SHOULD CALL THE UNION OFFICE THERE AT (217) 328-7509 to sign up for transportation to our Lobby Day from your campus. |
