For the fourteenth consecutive year Casa Guatemala will present Human
Rights Awards to individuals that have committed themselves selflessly
to the improvement of the human conditions of Guatemalans and Latin
Americans alike. Join us in thanking these individuals:

* Monsignor Ãlvaro Ramazzini of Guatemala will be presented with our
Annual "Otto Rene Castillo" Award. Ramazzini, of the diocese of San
Marcos, Guatemala, worked closely with Bishop Juan Gerardi on the
Recovery of Historical Memory Project (REHMI), which investigated human
rights abuses committed during the civil war. Today, Ramazzini is
working with the rural poor who live under the constant threat of death
for his efforts to promote genuine land reform.

* Neris Gonzalez is co-founder and director of Ecovida, a project
operating in Latino neighborhoods in Chicago to promote self-sufficiency
and environmental sustainability.

* Ralph Pothel, MD Heartland Health Outreach. Dr. Pothel is the
primary practitioner for the Casa Guatemala's Free Health clinic in
collaboration with Heartland Health Outreach who believe that all
persons have the right to receive quality health care in a supportive,
inclusive atmosphere

Casa Guatemala will honor them with a celebration of traditional
Guatemalan food and marimba.
