The SHORTWAVE REPORT 9/22/06 ¡LISTEN GLOBALLY! Current rating: 0
21 Sep 2006
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion, recorded from a shortwave radio. With times and freqs for listening at home. 2 files- broadcast and slow-modem streaming. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, Cuba, China, and Russia.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (September 22) is up at the website
http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (28:40)

This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Havana Cuba, China Radio International, and the Voice of Russia.
From NETHERLANDS- The Pope's recent statements about Islam have fueled the notion that the so-called War On Terror is a Holy War- first a Press review, then an interview with a leader of the World Council of Churches. The judge at the trial of Saddam Hussein has been replaced, following the prior judge's agreement that Saddam was not a dictator- the credibility and independence of the trial is being questioned. Then a press review of Bush’s speech to the UN where he claimed that the US respects Islam.
From CUBA- First a Viewpoint on the opening of the UN Assembly, with many nations hoping for reforms that would protect developing nations and incorporate ideas expressed at the recent Summit of Nonaligned Nations. It has been revealed that the US is stockpiling the pesticide Methyl Bromide despite worldwide agreement to cease producing this ozone destroying chemical. Citizens in Lebanon are continuing to be killed and injured by cluster bombs dropped by Israel during its recent invasion.
From CHINA- A report on the coup in Thailand- a nationwide state of martial law has been declared, and an election will take place in a year, after the constitution is rewritten.
From RUSSIA- The US is considering sanctions against N Korea for missile tests conducted last July. Russia is sending military engineers to Lebanon to rebuild bridges destroyed by Israel last month. Geo Bush defended his Middle East policy at the UN, saying he was promoting democracy in the region. The US has created a global network of secret prisons keeping 14,000 detainees beyond the reach of international law.
There is an article about the Shortwave Report by Cassandra Roos on line at- http://www.campusprogress.org/soundvision/780/big-stories-shortwaves

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday afternoon at 4:30pm (PDST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via <http://www.kzyx.org >
There are several other streams that work better- < http://www.freakradio.org >Freak Radio Santa Cruz  now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am and Saturday at 11am(PDST)
The Shortwave Report may be downloaded as a podcast from < http://www.radio4all.net > or iTunes (search for "shortwave" in podcasts)
Check out the amazing streams at < http://www.radicalradio.org >
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- <http://www.partytown.com/radio >

I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)

-- A "just war" is hospitable to every self-deception on the part of those waging it, none more than the certainty of virtue, under whose shelter every abomination can be committed with a clear conscience
