It is time to remember one of the two times that nuclear weapons were used in war-both times by the U.S., which remains the only nation to ever use these fearsome weapons. |
Despite all the victimhood hype in the US that is meant to stir up fear and justify National Missile Defense and Homeland Defense, the United States has shown itself to be the only nation so far that has been able to put aside moral considerations and use nuclear weapons on another country. It is we who are feared throughout the world, based on our past record. If we have something to fear here in the US, it is in large part because we have lowered the threshold on the use of such weapons and provided the moral cover of "national security" to justify war crimes and behavior that we have held others accountable for.
At 8:15am on the morning of August 6, 1945, a B-29 bomber dropped a nuclear weapon on Hiroshima, Japan. The overwhelming majority of the death and damage was to civilians and their property. Fifty-six years later, the world still sits on top of an arsenal that could end humankind as we know it if ever used in a nuclear war.
