Shame On You David Phelps
Current rating: 0
02 Aug 2001
It looks like David Phelps has decided he'd rather switch than fight. Since it's going to be an uphill battle, but still doable, against Tim Johnson in the newly realigned 19th District, there has been much speculation whether Phelps would even run. Now it looks like Rep. Phelps is more interested in lining up a job as an oil lobbyist after quitting Congress with this vote to drill in ANWR.

What is worse is that it leaves Tim Johnson looking like a liberal, which he is certainly not. The Democratic Party is truggling to find its soul these days and votes like this demonstrate the moral ambiguity that drives voters toward the Greens. Don't blame Ralph Nader when it was shit like this that caused Gore to lose. Stand by your principles or be prepared to see thoughtful voters turn elsewhere when given the choice.
