Carlos Euceda of the Confederation of Aboriginal and Black People of Honduras (CONPAH) will speak Thursday, Jan. 29, at 7 p.m., on the topic of "Central America's Struggle for Human Rights: Stories our Media Would Rather Not Tell." The event will take place at the Channing-Murray Foundation, 1209 W. Oregon, Urbana. The event is free and open to the public.
The people most adversely affected by the proposed Free Trade of the Americas are the indigenous people. Through his work with CONPAH, Mr. Euceda has worked as an advocate for the eight indigenous and black groups of Honduras in their increasingly desperate and deadly struggles to preserve their livelihoods, languages, and cultures. He will tell about the rise of awareness and grassroots efforts that have developed in Honduras.
The talk will be given in Spanish with English translation. The event is sponsored by the Channing-Murray Foundation (344-1176) and the Primary Communications Project (217-762-9561). |
