The SHORTWAVE REPORT 1/9/04 ¡LISTEN GLOBALLY! Current rating: 0
09 Jan 2004
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.2MB) and quick download (3.3MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, Spain, Russia, China, and Cuba.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (January 9) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.2MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:00) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org
There are several other streams that work better-  http://www.freakradio.org  Freak Radio Santa Cruz (96.3fm) now streams this program on Friday at 9:30am (PST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.radiolavalamp.org
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Spanish National Radio, the Voice of Russia, China Radio International and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Netherlands-  According to researchers at Leeds University 25% of all species of life on earth may be extinct by 2050, due to global warming. A Dutch soldier who killed an Iraqi looter last week was not acting in self-defense, while 3 US soldiers were dishonorably discharged. Several more letter bombs were sent to European leaders this week, mailed again from Italy. The new procedure of fingerprinting and photographing visitors to the US is extremely controversial around the world. Israel¹s Justice Minister has called for a rerouting of the wall nearly completed between Israel and Palestine, to avoid sanctions being imposed on Israel by the World Court.
From Spain- The Syrian President, during a visit to Turkey, called again for a nuclear-free zone in the Middle East. Attacks on foreigners in Iraq continued this week along with the murder of numerous Iraqis. Iran and Egypt made reconciliatory moves this week, 25 years after Egypt¹s involvement in the Camp David Peace Accords. Thousands of Haitians are in the streets demanding the resignation of President Aristide. 2 press reviews on the fingerprinting policy imposed on visitors to the US.
From Russia- The leaders of India and Pakistan met and discussed Kashmir and normalizing relations. Palestinian leader Arafat accused Israel¹s Sharon of not wanting peace, evidenced by endless changes to the ³Roadmap to Peace.²
From China- After an Israeli attack on a refugee camp in Naublis, the mayor accused Israel of war crimes. Syria¹s President says he will not abandon WMDs unless Israel abandons its nuclear arsenal. The American-educated lawyer who won a landslide Presidential election in Georgia, pledging to clean up corruption and make the country ³investor friendly.² N Korea says it will make a ³bold concession² if the US implements its action measures.
From Cuba- British and US soldiers have been accused of abusing Iraqi detainees. The Israeli Army will take no action against its soldiers who shot an Israeli protestor last week. Then a Viewpoint on the US imposition of armed guards on flights to the US, increasing global paranoia and division.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
