Israel's envoy to Egypt: Halt in aerial attacks on militants
By Haaretz Service
The Israeli Ambassador to Egypt, Eli Shaked, told reporters in Cairo on Friday that the Israel Defense Forces have halted aerial assassinations of Palestinian militants, Israel Radio reported.
Shaked said that at this stage, aerial assassinations have been halted, and instead the security forces will focus solely on militants perceived as "ticking bombs." He also said that there were plans to assassinate militant leaders.
Israel has on numerous occasions targeted Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants, often launching missile strikes from helicopters and fighter jets.
On October 22, IDF helicopters and warplanes launched five separate air strikes against Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip, killing at least 10 Palestinians, including four Hamas men.
Following a suicide bombing on a Jerusalem bus in August, Israel launched a wave of attacks on Hamas officials, with IDF Chief of Staff Moshe Ya'alon announcing that Israel views "all Hamas personnel as targets for pinpoint preventions."

I think Israel finally decided that they were doing themselves more harm than good with this sort of operation. There's nothing wrong with going after the guys who plan the suicide bombings, I think, but the world was pretty much united in the feeling that the collateral damage of this sort of method was just too high.
In other word, even the Sharon administration can learn, if the lesson is plain enough.
