6:30 PM EST (5:30 PM CST):
One group of UCIMC reporters tried to go to the convergence center downtown, and found it closed and cleared out by police, who told everyone inside to get out or get arrested.
We don't know if the Miami/FTAA IMC was raided or not, but their webradio stream has gone down. We have received other reports that the radio feed should be up again soon.
That group of reporters has left the downtown Miami area because police have locked down the area.
5:50 PM EST {4:50 PM CST}:
Our reporters are now a couple of blocks from the convergence center. Other protestors on the street are telling them that the convergence center has been shut down by police in riot gear -- we have not yet been able to confirm this.
UCIMC reporters in a downtown hotel tell us that there are mass arrests going on.
5:30 PM EST:
UCIMC reporters on the streets call in to say that the group of about 5000 protestors was broken up in to smaller groups by police and herded in different directions. Their group, numbering about 100, was pushed north many blocks to 18th ST, where police then retreated.
All UCIMC reporters are currently safe and accounted for.
5:15 PM EST -
Report from the streets that the protestors are still being advanced upon by police, they have been herded for blocks at a walk pace, and just pushed faster to a run when our reporter had to hang up. They've seen many injuries. They don't know where they're being herded to, it's possible that police may be trying to pen them in.
There are thousands of protestors in this group.
4:40pm EST-
Our reporter said that someone has been shot in the head by police with what is believed to be a rubber bullet, and is bleeding profusely. The street medics are attempting to treat the person, and other protestors are surrounding to protect them from police, who are advancing. |
