The SHORTWAVE REPORT 11/14/03 ˇListen Globally! Current rating: 0
14 Nov 2003
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.2MB) and quick download (3.2MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, Russia, China, Germany, Spain, and Cuba.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (November 14) is up at the websitehttp://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.2MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (28:50) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org
There are several other streams that work better- http://www.freakradio.org Freak Radio Santa Cruz (96.3fm) now streams this program on Friday at 9:30am (PDST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.radiolavalamp.org
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, the Voice of Russia, China Radio International, Radio Deutsche Welle, Spanish National Radio, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Netherlands- It has been a year since the oil tanker Prestige devastated the coast of Spain, and neither the Spanish government nor the EU have taken any steps to prevent this kind of disaster. Many senior government officials are resigning in Columbia, the latest being the Commander of the Armed Forces. When George Bush visits Britain next week many anti-war protests are planned, but there are government plans to keep the marches out of sight.
From Russia- A commentary on the recent Turkish decision to not send its troops to Iraq.
From China- The Russian oil tycoon charged with fraud and corruption, thinks he is being jailed for opposition to President Putin. The US Senate has passed a bill against Syria for alleged ties to terrorist organizations. The Arab League Chief strongly condemns the anti-Syria bill. China wants talks about the standoff with N Korea to resume within a year, and N Korea wants compensation for shutting down construction of its nuclear power plants.
From Germany- Monday’s European Press Review covers the suicide attack in Saudi Arabia and a new Jewish center in Germany.
From Spain- The EU Foreign Policy Chief said the wall being built by Israel is still strongly opposed and inappropriate. The former dictator of Guatemala accepted defeat in the Presidential election.
From Cuba- First a report on the hearing in the US Supreme Court about the prisoners in Guantanemo Bay. Tony Blair is trying to get the citizens of his country to tone down their rejection of Bush during his visit next week. Then a Viewpoint about the upcoming Ibero-American Summit in Bolivia, while a parallel meeting, the Social Alternative Encounter, will attempt to represent the needs of the people rather than governments and businesses.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
