Boxes and Walls is an interactive museum based on diversity education. Boxes and Walls runs through the end of October - reserve your spot quickly! |
Most education of this sort focuses on the cognitive and intellectual, while "Boxes and Walls" tries to personalize oppression and "bring it home" for the individual. Participants are led by a tour guide through a series of "rooms," each focusing on a different historically oppressed group. Along the way, they are placed into situations and activities, and confronted with a wealth of information which gives them a glimpse of what being a part of each group might be like, both historically and in the present day.
Tours are free and open to the public. Tours last about 90 minutes and leave every half hour between 5-9pm from the basement of the McKinley church (corner of John and 5th) Participants are *strongly* encouraged to make a reservation via the website before attending :: www.uiuc.edu/ro/boxesandwalls :: |
