Winona LaDuke at Southern Illinois University - Carbondale on October 13.
On Monday, October 13th, Southern Illinois will be celebrating Indigenous Peoples' Day (as opposed to "Columbus Day").

From 10 am to 2 pm in the Free Forum Area & Faner Breezeway, there will be Native American drumming, dancers, and vendors.

Presentations on indigenous struggles will take place at 3:00 & 4:00

We are proud to present Nammy Award-winning recording artist Annie Humphrey at 5:00 in the Student Center Ballroom D, followed by keynote speaker *Winona LaDuke* at 7:00

Winona LaDuke, a 1982 Harvard graduate, ran as a Vice Presidential candidate in both 1996 and 2000. She currently lives on the White Earth Reservation in Minnesota and works on restoring the local land base and culture as the founding director of the White Earth Land Recovery Project. LaDuke also serves as the board co-chair for the Indigenous Women's Network and works in a national capacity as Program Director for Honor the Earth Fund. She won the 1988 Reebok Human Rights Award and is Program Director of the Environmental
Program at the Seventh Generation Fund. In 1994, she was named by Time Magazine as one of America's 50 most promising leaders under 40 years of age, and was Ms. Magazine's 1997 Woman of the Year. In 1995, she gave the keynote address to the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, China. She is also author of several books including Last Standing Woman (1997) and All Our Relations: Native Struggles for Land and Life (1999).
