Local labor unions and community groups to march on Labor Day |
On Monday, Sept 1 at 10 am, the AFL-CIO of Champaign County is sponsoring the Labor Day parade. A large number of union locals, community groups in support of labor, and other units will participate.
The parade starts at 10am and will follow a route from Lincoln Square down Broadway Ave. to Washington St, where it turns east. The march will follow Washington St. all the way to Lierman Ave, where it concludes.
Following the parade will be a picnic, open to all union members and their families, at Prairie Park (just east of the Brookens Center, where the parade route ends). There will be free inflatable games for the kids, a softball game, and the Kilbourne Alley Blues Band will play. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
The public is urged to turn out along the parade route to show their support of working people. Those marching in the parade are asked to assemble by 9:30am at the beginning of the parade route at Lincoln Square. |
