Chicago Street Medic Training Feb. 24 + 25
The Chicago Street Medic training will be held on February 24th and 25th, from 11-7 PM. It will be held at the Emergency Room, thanks to the folks at Novocaine Records. This space is located a block from the Orange line Ashland stop, and directions will be given to those who sign up for the training. There are a limited number of slots available, so if you are interested in being trained, please contact Yael as soon as possible, at yael (at) dojo.tao.ca or 847) 599-4040 ex. 8020. Information on the training follows:

Trainings are offered for those who wish to be Street Medics, Street Clinicians or Affinity Group Medics. This course is designed as a basic training to prepare medics for actual street experience. We are confident that these trainings are a complete introduction to action medical knowledge and skills, and that completion of this course will have you ready for action.

The trainers are Catherine and Brian from On the Ground, a medical affinity group in Syracuse, NY. They are both experienced street medics and trainers, and did medical in numerous protests including the RNC, the Inauguration, A16 in DC, and much much more.

The training schedule they prepared is as follows:

Saturday, Feb. 24th:

Basic Street First Aid
This extensive introductory training provides essential first aid knowledge, as applied to actual street experience at mass demonstrations and direct actions. Includes chemical weapons treatment protocols, trauma, weather-related sudden illness, and much more, with numerous hands-on practicals. Also the complete course for Affinity Group Medics.

Sunday, Feb. 25th:

Street Medic Operations
Introduction to how street medics function in the field. Begins with presentation and discussion of codes of conduct and ethics, team makeup & teamwork, calling for backup, and dealing with police/EMS. Includes how/when to move patients (practicals) and how to conduct triage.

Street Medic RolePlays
Participants play one of three roles (police, protestors, street medics) during one or more of several roleplays intended to simulate demonstration environments. Each roleplay is evaluated. This fast-paced and energetic
training is where medics make mistakes, instead of in the field! We are also looking for folks not attending the training to participate in the roleplays as protesters or cops. Please let me know if you are interested.

Street Medic Skills Evaluation
Opportunity for those who wish to further practice and hone their skills; hands-on practicals where instructors can offer one-on-one evaluation.

This training will be sliding scale up to $30. Nobody, of course, will be turned away for lack of funds. We are asking that folks interested please sign up by contacting me at yael (at) dojo.tao.ca or at 847) 599-4040 ex. 8020. If possible, participants should bring your own water bottles. Also, no drug or alcohol usage during the training will be permitted. 'Nuff said.

Thanks for your interest. Again, please contact me as soon as possible if you are planning on attending. yael (at) dojo.tao.ca or 847) 599-4040 ex. 8020
