The Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center (UC-IMC), in conjunction with The Canopy Club and The Paper, is celebrating three years of Indymedia in the twin cities with IMCfest at the Canopy Club on August 30th from 1pm-10pm. This festival will be a fundraiser for the UC-IMC Capital Campaign. 100% of the money collected at the door will go directly to the IMC.

IMCfest will be a multimedia event featuring 11 bands on 2 stages, two feature length independent films, a 'zine reading, and activist speakers. Music groups at the fest will range in styles from folk to rock to punk.

So far the UC-IMC has confirmed the following bands: Fourth Rotor, Ripley Caine, G. Lee, Darrin Drda, Kate Hathaway, Little Black Spiders (features members of Some Velvet Morning and Terminus Victor), and The Buzzards. Four other bands will be announced shortly. Festival schedule updates will be available at http://shows.ucimc.org/.

The UC-IMC wishes to thank Strawberry Fields for its donation of food to the festival.

Feature Films

TRIBUTARY (2002, 70 minutes) - This film by Chicago film maker Russ Forster takes a look at the misunderstood world of tribute bands. Numerous interviews highlight the working musicians who love to cut loose while channeling everyone from Rush to Motley Crue, from Led Zepplin to Guided by Voices, from Black Sabbath to Devo. With TRIBUTARY, Forster continues his filmic crusade to uncover musical subcultures after making SO WRONG THEY'RE RIGHT, a meditation on 8-track collectors.

EXISTO (1999, 88 minutes) - He's back! Due to the positive response given EXISTO in April at the first MICRO-FILM/IMC movie show, we've decided to give the Champaign-Urbana community a second chance to discover for the first time this blast of music, comedy, performance, intrigue, and anarchy! Lovingly crafted in Nashville, EXISTO chronicles the return of a brilliant (and slightly unbalanced) performance artist to lead the creative bohemia against all those right-wing lugnuts running our country! Set primarily in an underground club, what better place than the Canopy to show the film that might just be the ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW for the 21st century? http://www.existo.com/

Bands

Fourth Rotor (Chicago DIY Electric Noise), Little Black Spiders (Chaos Experimentalism), The Buzzards (Alt-Country Indie Rock), Ripley Caine (Chicago Sexy Granola Rock), Kate Hathaway (Bluesy Acoustic Rock), Darrin Drda (Jazzy Trancendental Folk), G. Lee (Indie Singer-Songwriter), MJ Walker and Fictive Kin (Americana Roots Folk)

Mission

Indymedia is a global network of collectively run media outlets for the creation of radical, accurate, and passionate tellings of truth. We are motivated by a love and inspiration for people who work for a better world despite corporate media's distortions and unwillingness to cover efforts to develop an egalitarian and sustainable society.

The Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center is a grassroots organization committed to using media production and distribution as tools for promoting social and economic justice in the Urbana-Champaign area. We are dedicated to addressing issues that the mainstream media neglects and we do not conceal our politics behind a false objectivity. We will empower people to "become the media" by providing democratic access to available technologies and information. Capital Campaign

The UC-IMC's Capital Campaign to buy a building of its own, establishing a permanent presence in our community, is in full swing. The capital campaign seeks to raise $100,000 by this December. In just a few months of active fundraising the Capital Campaign already has $37,000 in the bank.

The UC-IMC is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization. All donations to the capital campaign are tax deductible as allowed by law. Those who would like to make an anonymous or one-time contribution to the IMC capital campaign can send donations by mail to:
