The NGA meeting in Indianapolis will bring together the nation's governors in closed door meetings with Bush and representatives of the NGA corporate fellows program, including Coca-Cola, Monsanto, Bechtel, and Citigroup. |
From August 16-19, the National Governors Association will be meeting in Indianapolis. This conference brings together the governors of all 50 states and the territories. The main meetings will be open only to the
governors and their guests, including members of the NGA Corporate Fellows Program, featuring representatives of 100 "industry leaders" from the U.S. (including Monsanto, Coca-Cola, AOL Time-Warner, Astra-Zeneca Pharmaceuticals, Walmart, and Bechtel), and President Bush.
Activists and citizens are working on a variety of issues at this convergence, from anti-death penalty crusaders demanding that individual governors repeal the death penalty, to feminists fighting against the NGA's support for anti-choice measures on the state level, to peace activists protesting Bush's appearance on the 19th. Other related issues include the NGA's lobbying against federal environmental regulations, Indiana Governor O'Bannon's 1-69 (the "NAFTA highway") plan, privatization, and increased prison funding/decreased education funding at the state level.
Show your opposition to these closed-door meetings! Say NO to the pandering by government to corporate interests by joining in four days of protests, parties, and teach-ins. When you get into town, drop by 311 N. New Jersey, the Marian Center (the convergence center), to hook up with food, lodging, and the schedule of events.
