in the days before the internet, before radio and television, political organizing-even radical political organizing-still took place. The difference was that it happened face to face, unmediated. Reformers, firebrand revolutionaries, subversive entertainers, and guerilla historians, traveled the country, speaking with and performing for people in person from one town to the next: this was known as barnstorming.
