The SHORTWAVE REPORT 7/11/03 ˇListen Globally! Current rating: 0
10 Jul 2003
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.0MB) and quick download (3.3MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Spain, Netherlands, Russia, and Cuba.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (July 11) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.0MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.2MB) (28:30) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org
There are several other streams that work better- http://www.freakradio.org Freak Radio Santa Cruz (96.3fm) now streams this program on Friday at 9:30am (PDST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.radiolavalamp.org
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
This week's show features stories from Spanish National Radio, Radio Netherlands, the Voice of Russia, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Spain- In Palestine, Hamas says the peace plan will fail unless Israel releases more than a few hundred of the 6 thousand Palestinians being held. Spanish architect Gaudi is moving forward toward official sainthood. The Spanish government has met resistance to its plan to send military troops to Iraq to guard the oil pipelines. The PRI won congressional elections in Mexico, 9 FARC rebels in Columbia were killed and more arrested by Army troops, and Guatemala’s ex-dictator wants to lead again as his primary opponent was shot to death. The US State Dept says Columbia has met “Human Rights” conditions and will get more money for the military. The UN Human Development report was released, pointing out that since the 90’s foreign aid has declined, global commodity prices have dropped, and many nations in Africa are poorer now than in 1990.
From Netherlands- As Bush makes his trip to Africa, there is much criticism in S Africa of his policies. Bush avoided Mandela and the next likely President of S Africa, and here’s why. Then an interview with a researcher for the website iragbodycount.net, whose numbers for Iraqi civilian deaths has risen rapidly in the past month.
From Russia- The possibility of a US return to active nuclear testing, and the development of new nuclear weapons, is observed here from a Russian perspective. In the background you will hear a faint Asian station is using the same frequency when I recorded this piece.
From Cuba- The US plan to begin military tribunals for prisoners at Guantanemo Bay has sparked protest in many countries. US forces in Iraq continue to be attacked, though the US says it is not a guerilla war.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
