Announcement :: Labor
UI Radiologists To Picket Current rating: 0
26 Jun 2003
Monday, June 30, 11:30 am - 1 pm at McKinley Health Center.

Below is a copy of an email from AFSCME Staff Representative Jerry Wright. The Radiographers are getting a little in the way of compensation for their skills. Even though the training required to perform their job requires as much or more training than that of an RN, they receive no where near the same rate of pay. In addition the pay rate is often around half of the salary paid for radiographers outside of the university. The university sees no problem with this inequity. Well, we have been there and know the how the Radiographers feel...equal pay for equal skills is a must! All employees at the university should be treated with respect and compensated at the appropriate rate for the important jobs they perform.

Now is the time to step up and show the campus that AFSCME stands together for the fairness of all. So stop by McKinley Monday during lunch hours and enjoy a nice walk with your fellow AFSCME and community members. Let's show the university that an injury to one is an injury to all! Hope to see you there. Remember that our contract expires next year and we may need to ask our sister local 698 for assistance then...so let's give them a hand now.

If you wish to reply to this email please reply to afscme37 (at) soltec.net. Thank you.

Dorinda Miller
AFSCME Local 3700, President
______________________________________________

Attention: Because the U of I came back with such a sorry proposal for the Radiographers we are planning an informational picket on Monday June 30, 2003 from 11:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at McKinley. Even though this was the first proposal from the U of I it was so bad that they need to be knocked down a notch or so. It's one thing to cry poor mouth it is another to insult the people across the table from you and that is what they did. Please ask you members to join us on the picket line at McKinley for as long as they possibly can next Monday. It's clear to us that if we let them get away with this type of negotiation on the Radiographers they will attempt to do it to all of Local 698 and on Local 3700 when their contract expires next year. There will be a sign making event on Thursday June 26 at 4:30 P.M. Come join the fun... it should only take us an hour or so to make all the signs we will need.

Jerry L. Wright
