Please Help Arrested Anti-Poverty Activists!
Five leading activists of the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP) have been jailed and serious charges made against them. The government and big business of this Canadian province have taken these actions because OCAP has been gaining more and more support for its 'Fight To Win" campaign against the provinces government led by Harris. Increasingly union locals have been forming "Flying Squads" which have joined OCAP's actions and the Canadian Union of Public Employees recently voted to hold a one day general strike in support of OCAP's campaign.
OCAP does not believe in making a polite protest against the vicious policies that the Harris government is carrying out against the poor. It believe that organizatioons and individuals who carry out such policies should suffer consequences. It recently evicted the Provinces' Minister For Finance from his office to highlight that 2000 people had been eveicted from their homes because of the big business policies that he carries out. OCAP has declared that it intention is to bring down the Harris Government.
Now Canadian big business and the Harris Government has moved and jailed the leading activists of OCAP. They are being held on bogus charges. Please help these activists. Go to your nearest Canadian Embassy or Consulate or trade mission and demand the release of John Clarke and all the OCAP activists. Send a flood of Email messages to Canadian embassies etc.
Take whatever action targeting the Canadian institutions as you see fit. OCAP is a militant organization of the poor with increasing roots in the union movement and the workplaces. Please help. Do not allow this organization and its fight against the effect of Global Capitalism's attacks on the poor to be crushed. A victory for OCAP will help all struggles against poverty internationally.
