Former Galesburg Mayor Runs for Illinois Senate Current rating: 0
03 Jul 2006
2 Term Mayor of Galesburg Illinois, Bob Sheehan has announced his candidacy for the Illinois State Senate 37th District.
from http://bobsheehan.com

Very soon we will be celebrating our Independence from the British Crown, officially declared on July 4, 1776. What we celebrate is not something long ago or far way,but something here and now that must be renewed daily. You only have to walk as far as your American Legion or VFW in order to meet someone who has laid his life on the line for the freedoms we enjoy. We have established a process in this country that allows everyone to participate in our government, at all levels.

The very least you can do to participate is register to vote:
and make sure you vote on election day.

If Thomas Jefferson or Paul Revere failed to show upat a crucial point in history, we might never have broken the bonds of monarchy, and would not be here celebrating the birth of an independent nation.Without our continued efforts, "liberty and justice for all" will not be a reality.

During my 14 years in elected office, I have worked to include my neighbors in the process of government in Knox County and the City of Galesburg, where I live. This year, I seek to cast my net more widely, throughout the 37th District of Illinois in my bid for a seat in the State Senate. My first priority will remain the same as it always has been: to encouragethe participation of every individual, to the fullest extent possible, in the wonderful experiment called Democracy that we celebrate each year.

I am prepared to listen to what you have to say, and have the experience necessary to represent you when the Illinois Senate convenes in Springfield next year. In the coming months I will be working hard throughout the 37th District of Illinois to bring out the vote, and I look forward to your help.

Bob Sheehan
Candidate for Illinois State Senate
