WRFU-LP 104.5 FM will remodel it's studio this weekend, starting at 2pm on Friday, June 30. We will be in automated operation until the project is finished sometime later in the weekend.
Please come out and volunteer, especially on Saturday. The work starts at 2pm on Friday, when the old equipment is taken out of the studio and the carpet is installed. We'll be starting around 11am on Saturday and need lots of hands for the various projects. We hope to finish by early Saturday evening. If not, we'll finish things up Sunday afternoon.
The suspended ceiling will be completed and new carpet installed. A very nice donated countertop will dress up things. Wiring will be labeled, tested, and secured.
The remodeling will put better equipment in the studio. Two new identical CD decks will make playing CDs more intuitive. A third microphone will make it easier when multiple guests are on a show. New mic booms will make adjusting the mics easier. Revisions to the station computer network will make using it easier.
Up on the roof, we have some minor work to perform on the tower, which will require briefly shutting down the station. This will most likley occur sometime Saturday afternoon, providing the weather cooperates.
Work on the WRFU Fourth of July float will also take place on Saturday, so there's lots to do. We hope to see you there. |

We made great progress on the studio remodel today. The cabinetry was finished, the board rewired with labeled cables, the secondary receive antenna is up and working well with the transmitter off. Essentially everything is back together, although some network wiring issues remain to be finished when Dan returns Sunday. Brett and John are finishing up some wiring to connect the transmitter to the studio right now. It is hoped that the station will be back on air later tonight on automation.
Starting at noon Sunday, there are a number of small loose ends to finish, but we hope to be live again by late afternoon on Sunday. We also need to do some cleaning up, etc.
While we thought there was a problem with the donated third mic, it turns out that it needs a "phantom power" source. Once this is figured out, then we'll have three mics. The mic booms are definitely much nicer.
Thanks to everyone who worked so hard on this and we hope to see more help to finish on Sunday. Remember that help is still needed to finish the RFU float, starting at 4pm on Sunday. We now have a tow vehicle. I have a large boombox which should be adequate for sound on the float if we don't come up with something better. |
